NYPD Commish Ray Kelly Must Resign!

Photo of OWS protest

Police brutality against Union Square protestors is part of a strategy to beat us away from the spotlight. What general winter failed to do, Bloomberg and Kelly hope to accomplish with billy clubs and pepper spray.

Join us on Saturday. Join us as we fight for our rights and our lives.

Our answer cannot be spoken of in soft and polite tones; it must be roared: Hello no, we won’t go! Police Commissioner Ray Kelly must resign, the NYPD must stop using violence as a first and only recourse to nonviolent protest, and all those concerned with an out of control, spying and lying police high command must work together to make it happen.

We’ll be gathering at noon at Liberty Square (Zuccotti Park) and marching from there. Our response to NYPD police brutality and mass arrests will be peaceful; our best defence is a large turnout.

Keep in mind that success depends on applying the tools of Nonviolent Direct Action. Gandhi and King for how the heart and mind participate. Such as Gene Sharp and the Serbians and Egyptians for tactics. Always:\
    Pledge For Nonviolence

    1. As you prepare for Occupy Wall Street, please open yourself to life, love and the blessings of faith, hope, and charity.
    2. Refrain from violence of fist, tongue and heart.
    3. Walk and talk in the manner of love; for truth and love are the core of life, neither ambition nor the temptations of control.
    4. Sacrifice personal wishes that all might be free.
    5. Observe with friends, with false friends and with your foes the ordinary rules of courtesy.
    6. Perform regular service for others and the world.
    7. Pray or simply ask within to be moved so that all men and women might be free.
    8. Remember that nonviolence seeks Justice and Reconciliation – not victory.
    9. Strive to be in good spirits and in good health. We are the 99% and we must go in peace.
“Nine Principles” adapted from Dr. M.L.King, Jr., and M.K. Gandhi
Recent OWS events have lost ground. Both with the core NYC supporters and with the general public. OWS NYC is seen to be responsible for the violence. Screaming at NYPD, for one, vilates Item # 2 — with devastating consequences.

Nothing is done to train these crowds. The notion of “LOLZ” as a pay-off for participating in demonstration has replaced every part of the discipline of the “Nine Principles.”

Cursing is condoned, for example. Hatreds become palpable. We have to do better or else we will fail, at least in New York.
